Saturday July 23, 2022 - X3 Championship

The kid need to beat Carson Wray straight up to take the 2022 X3 Summer Tour.   He had a four stroke lead headed into the 8th hole but a stinger that was on line hit the tee marker and bounded into the bushes.   A triple bogey later, he held just a one stroke lead but both went on to par the ninth and all was well.

Day Nine. Drove to Oxfordshire Golf Club and played our final round of golf of the trip.   On the ninth we were waved through by four Brits and we did not disappoint - smoking two perfect drives up the middle.

Day Eight. Friday was travel day.   We left St. Andrews and drove for 6 1/2 hours (315 miles) to the Courtyard by Marriott just outside Stoke-on-Trent, England.   Much to our delight, we had a relatively large hotel room compared to the tiny ones on the way up.

Day Seven Longest day of the year - got to The Old Course at 6:30am to see Paul Lawrie hit the opening tee shot and didn't leave until 9:45pm after Sahith Theegala sunk his putt on 18.

Day Six Drove in to St. Andrews and had a private lesson at St. Andrews Indoor Golf Center with David Poulton.   Took a stroll around town and checked into our VRBO.   The birthday boy and I had a great dinner at Zizzi's, sharing their amazing thin crust, wood fired pizza.

Day Five - Carlisle Golf Club, Carlisle, England. Very nice parkland course just south of the Scotland border.   The only course that we played that had a driving range, and a member bought me a bucket of balls so I wouldn't have to trek all the way back to the clubhouse.   Very nice.

Day Four Drove to Wallasey and got an amazing private of the clubhouse tour from Ren.   This was the first links for each of us.  I fired an 82 and the kid came in with an 85.   Bobby Jones loved the course and a Wallasey member painted his portrait, which hangs on the wall and has been valued at well over $3M.

Day Three Got into Redditch, England and played The Abbey Golf Club, which was right on the the hotel property.   The biggest thing was that it is very hard to hold the greens.   It seemed like you need to bump and run everything.   This track will not win any awards (driving range closed, below average fairways, etc.) but it was a good place to play to start the trip.   Day Two Fairly uneventful as we got in late and spent about 90 minutes getting to the hotel in Milton Keynes.   Not really enough time to golf and we were both pretty tired so we just kicked back in the hotel lobby restaurant.   Had a tough time sleeping but got up and left for Reddich, England and Abbey Hills Golf Course at about 10am.

Friday July 8, 2022 - The Open Championship Trip

Day One Left Phoenix at about 9:30am and got to Las Vegas at just around 2:00pm.   Went to Top Golf next to the MGM Grand and had fun playing a virtual St. Andrews where I was humbled, 4&3 by Trevor.   Got to the airport way early but the PGA Tour Grill was next to our gate so it seemed natural that we go in and grab a drink or four.

Saturday July 2, 2022

The kid fires his first subpar round with a 29 (-1) at Royal Palms.   Due to the long weekend, there were only 28 kids overall and just four in X-Factor but Trevor won by 6 strokes.   This was the second of five tournaments on the X3 Summer Tour but we'll be in England for the third and fourth.
