So we returned to the Grand Shithole on Tuesday to play BASIS Phoenix and Lincoln Prep. It was 108 degrees and a bit windy and Trevor was +6 after six holes, with only one par. He finally got it together on #7 with a par as the team battled with darkness. Another par on #8 and he was running to the final tee box, a 355 yard par 5 (yes, par 5). He drilled his tee shot about 275 yards, aided by a rock hard fairway. We finally found the ball and I had to run and stand behind the pin so he could see it. I couldn't see the ball in the air but I heard it land and watched it track perfectly as it broke a couple of feet right to the hole, coming to rest about six inches away. The tap in eagle gave him the win!
Trevor played The Shoals - Fighting Joe course with Bill Beumer, the head golf coach at Grissom High School in Huntsville. The state championship is being played at this course so he wanted to get familiar with it. Trevor got off to a rocky start but birdied back to back holes to finish the front nine and cruised to an 82 on yet another great course.
